A beautiful early Victorian agate and pinchbeck bracelet. The 12 panels of navette-shaped agates show a magnificent combination of organic patterns and colors in each one. The bracelet is set in pinchbeck. It is a form of brass, an alloy of copper and zinc, and was invented by Christopher Pinchbeck, a London clockmaker in the early 18th century. The pinchbeck alloy existed for a short period of time, until 9k gold became more affordable in the Victorian period. This material remains important in jewelry history.
The clasp of this bracelet is firm and secure. One stone shows a short and minor hairline. The bracelet is light and very wearable, and overall in good condition.
