Victorian Etruscan Revival AEI Diamond Enamel Locket

Victorian Etruscan Revival AEI Diamond Enamel Locket

C.1860-1870s. A stunning and rare Victorian Etruscan revival 18k gold locket. This medium-sized locket features fine gold granulation and wirework throughout the body, and the front shows the raised lettering 'AEI' in small old-cut diamonds on dark royal blue colored guilloché enamel. 'AEI' (aei | ἀεί) means 'You are always' or 'Forever' in Greek-English concordance. (Please see another example from our sold archive with this meaning.) The original matching bale of this locket continues the gold details on the back of it. The rear side shows an open-back locket compartment, which remains empty. The warm rich gold, the deep blue enamel and the diamonds make a gorgeous combination together.
There is a dent around the top right on the back, however it is less noticeable with its curved frame. Overall the locket is in great condition with no missing details in gold work. And no damage or chips on the enamel. The gold shows the natural patina in gold.

Total Drop: Approximately 1.50" including the top bale
