C.1890-1910. A French sterling silver cross from 'Lourdes' paired with a chunky sterling silver chain. Lourdes is a sacred town in Southwestern France, in the hills of the Pyrenees mountains. With the tale of Virgin Mary's appearance in 1858, people have believed that Lourdes has a healing energy, and the place has become a major site of Roman Catholic pilgrimage and of miraculous healings.
The sterling silver cross is engraved front and back, and the front shows 'Sv. de Lourdes' (souvenir of Lourdes). It is paired with a sterling silver chain with two original dog clips at the end. The chain has a center drop, where the cross is attached, and has a makers mark of 'MB & S', Overall in great condition.
