C.1880. An unusually long, Victorian sterling silver book chain and a large locket. It is rare to see a Victorian book chain of this length. The beautifully etched, flat rectangular links are connected with large silver hoops. A unique element of this chain is that the first link, attached to the large bolt ring, is shaped like a small buckle. It adds a fine amount of detail. The large sterling silver bird locket has two photo or memento compartments, and one side is lined with red velvet.
Overall, the piece is in very good condition with minor surface scratches and a few small dents on the back of the chain. The front of both the locket and chain look very beautiful without any visual damage. Both the locket and chain display a natural patina.
-Chain: Approximately 31.5" in length (from the large spring bolt to the end)
-Locket: Approximately 2.25” x 1/25” including the bale
