C.1860.  An enchanting example of Victorian jewelry: a serpent and acorn pendant. The coiled body of a serpent forms the top part of the pendant; the serpent’s mouth holds an acorn with its leaves. The dangling acorn and the leaves give nice movement when worn. The leaves are elaborately hammered to show the surfaces, while fine engraving creates a realistic appearance. A serpent is a symbol of eternity, and the acorn symbolizes power, new life, and fertility. Both symbols were popular in the Victorian period. The pendant, made of 15k yellow gold, is paired with a beautiful 9k yellow gold snake chain. (the clasp of the chain is a newer replacement.) There is a small dent on the back of the acorn; it does not show when the necklace is worn. Besides that, overall in very good condition.
