C.1860s-1870s. A striking Etruscan revival ROMA urn pendant/brooch. The top part consists of a large bale with granulation details and gold wired centerpiece. The bottom part shows a beautifully made plump urn that has the raised lettering of 'ROMA'. The urn opens and reveals a secret compartment. (see image #2.) The bale for the pendant and brooch back are ingeniously constructed. Two fine cylinders with the bale go through the brooch bar to attach them together, and it locks with a hidden rivet at the top. The rivet clicks into the top center for security. This piece tests 14k-18k gold, and its particularly oversized scale offers a strong and bold presence. Overall it is in great condition with the natural patina in gold.
