An early 19th century Georgian snake & lyre wax seal fob pendant. With unusual yet beautiful details- this 18k gold wax seal intaglio fob has a bloodstone base that is finely carved in Persian/Mughal script. The carving, which is most likely a name, almost resembles a gorgeous wallpaper. In this fob made with two tone gold, the snake wraps around the lyre, and the bail is completed with the coiled tail of the figure. A snake represents eternity and rebirth. A lyre, a small U-shaped harp, is a musical instrument that was often played in ancient Greece. As an attribute of Apollo, the god of prophecy and music, the lyre symbolizes wisdom. Overall this fob pendant is in great condition with natural patina in gold.
