C.1700. A beautiful pair of pink foiled Stuart Crystal earrings. The original gold ciphers are intact under the clear rock crystal quartz, and the foiling in this pair shows vivid pink color. The crystals are faceted step cut, and the earrings are set in sterling silver. These would have originally been cuff buttons or cufflinks, and were later converted into earrings. The ear wires are 14k yellow gold. Stuart Crystal jewelry is rare and highly collectible. They were produced in England under the silent support of the monarchy after the execution of King Charles I in 1649. His loyal followers wore Stuart crystal jewelry (foiled rock crystal) bearing his initials, miniature portrait or lock of hair. This tradition continued into the 18th century.
