C.1820. A simple and stunning Georgian paste rivière necklace. The foil-backed paste stones are set in slightly graduated sizes. The foil backing in this necklace gives the stones a glorious hue with hints of honey tones, when they move in light, and it is part of the distinctive beauty of paste jewelry.
Paste jewelry was admired and collected because of its beauty, not as imitation diamond jewelry. Today, it is still appreciated for its beauty; pieces in good condition are rare.
This necklace is in more desirable ‘closed dome’ back setting in silver. It has the original paste concealed clasp not the replaced spring one. The push tab closure snaps correctly. The necklace contains a security chain.
The necklace measures approximately 15.75” in length, and the pastes measure approximately 8mm in diameter (the largest) and graduate to the smallest measuring 6mm.
