A late Victorian Whitby Jet heart padlock. 'Whitby jet' was found at the seaside town of Whitby in England. It was named after the town where it was found. The material has an organic origin, being derived from decaying wood under extreme pressure. With its natural color of rich black, Jet became very popular in Victorian period.
This padlock can be worn as a pendant or a charm to a bracelet. It is in great condition without any damages to the jet. The padlock opens. (see the last photo.)
